What if we gave an election and nobody came

I never dreamt I would talk about politics on this blog. I long dreamt of having a woman be President. I saw her as someone who was strong, compassionate and who put her countries needs above her own. Instead we have an election where nobody deserves to lead this great country.

In Mrs. Clinton we have a woman who puts her own needs ahead of her countries security and lies at every turn.

How can she say she will protect us when she had her own private server in her home so that she could keep from us emails that belonged to we the people but she didn't want anyone to have access to? How can we trust a woman who will lie to families about why their people died with the bodies laying just a few feet away. She lied to us about it while telling her daughter the truth on the same day. She lied about landing in a foreign country 'under fire' saying they 'had to run for the building with their heads down' instead of having a greeting ceremony that was planned. The video of that day shows her accepting flowers from a young girl on the tarmac. Personally, I don't see ruthlessness as strength.

Yes, my dream of the first woman president was very different from the one we most likely will have. I hoped and dreamt that she would be someone our daughters and granddaughters could look up to for her sterling qualities. Yes, I know we have had many presidents that were the same, but we also had good men who fought to make us a stronger and better country. Everyone has faults, but with a country such as ours, shouldn't we be able to find applicants to the job of President who represent the very best in us?

Another completion

A beautiful day here. The birds are singing and the flowers are blooming. Temps back down in the 70's which suits me perfectly.

Just finished and gifted this quilt to our daughter and her wife. They are moving to AZ and will be desperately missed. It was such a joy having them living close enough to visit frequently this past year.

I saw this pattern in a magazine and had to make it. I am pleased with how it turned out and they love it. Hate that they are leaving, but wish them well in their new venture.

It is my honor

I had the honor of making a quilt for a WWII Veteran who is 94. His daughter contacted our Quilt Guild hoping someone could make one for her Dad. She sent me pictures of him and I got to meet him in person while I was working on the quilt.

The center of the quilt is a panel and I was able to include pictures of him on the quilt as well as a picture of him from when I met him as part of the label on the back.

We are losing so many of our Veterans from that war. My Dad died before I started quilting, so I wasn't able to make him one. I was happy to do this in his honor.

Backing to quilt is Army insignia's

Fish Everywhere

I am so tired of bathroom rugs that fall apart after a few washing's; so decided to make my own. The first of three is done. The other 2 will have to wait until I am done with a quilt for a WWII Veteran. His daughter said they couldn't afford much, but I will not charge for a quilt for a veteran, especially a WWII one. So that is my next project.

In the meantime, here is the first 'rug'. I have a shower curtain that is a blue underwater scene with lots of fish on it. The walls are yellow. These rugs will be scrappy fish with yellow as the one constant in them.

Christmas tree skirt

Tree skirt that a son requested is done and ready to be given to them today. I decided to make it square, and the split goes from the center to a corner so that the corners stick out from under the tree. He also requested something religious on one side so I found fabric for the backing that fits the bill.

The backing is a lovely Jim Shore design that I found on-line. I really like it.

The corner in the back of the tree has just a plain block. The lower left star will be at the front of the tree. My first attempt at a tree skirt, and I am very pleased with it. The background material is a sparkly/frosty blue winter tree design.

Square in a Square using 2 pieces of fabric

This is a great way to work with pre-cuts. You need a charm pack and a layer cake, or use your own fabrics and cut 5" and 10" squares. If you have smaller squares, just cut the larger square twice the size of the smaller one.

1. Center the smaller square on the larger one. You can do this by folding both squares in quarters or you can use 2 rulers to measure in from the top and side and snug the smaller square against the 2 rulers.

2. Fold in 2 sides to the center and either pin or press the fold. Sew a 1/4" seam on each side and press open.

3. Fold in the top and bottom, pin or press and sew 1/4" seam top and bottom. Press open and your block is completed.

Busy Year

It has been too long since I have posted. In that time, we have lost my wonderful Mother-In-Law. She had 93 years on this earth. She had some health struggles, but was fairly active up until the last three months of her life. She will be greatly missed by all of us. The following picture is of a quilt I made for her back in 2004. It is now back in my hands and on my bed giving me a warm hug from her each night. Like me, she preferred the side shown in the first picture.
